Dobbin Bay

Site of ancient Thule hunting camps (now virtually obliterated). Artifacts found here include Norse woolen clothing, chain mail, and iron rivets from Viking ships. These may have been acquired by the Eskimos by trade or scavanging of Norse settlements in Greenland. "Skraeling" was an uncomplimentary Viking term for the native peoples. (Photo by Rhoda Batson)

Coburg Island migratory bird sanctuary; important nesting ground for Thick-billed Murres, Black-legged Kittiwakes, and Black Guillemots. To the west of Coburg is Jones Sound which lies between Devon and Ellesmere Islands. The fist charting was by Robert Bylot and William Baffin, aboard Discovery, in 1616. (Photo by Ray Batson)
